Hi! Welcome to My Corner Bistro. My name is Rosie. I am the voice behind the blog. My husband Dave and I live in New York with our two sons Josh and Mikey and puppy Rocco.
If you told me a year ago that I would be a blog publisher and food photographer I would have never believed you. I knew nothing about photography at the time but I did love art. I dabbled in creating new dishes here and there but did love to collect recipes. So basically this blog was in the making before I even knew it.
I come from a very Italian family where food is the center of everything. Literally. When we visit my grandmother the first thing she will ask is, “Did you eat? Let me make you something.” I always think it’s so funny but actually have caught myself doing the same thing. I guess you could say it’s the way we show that we care.
In 2008 I met Dave and two years later we were married in our own home and starting a family. We spent most of our time in the kitchen learning how to cook. Through trial and error and many dishes of mushy rice I think we finally got it! For Christmas that year Dave bought me this big book called The Flavor Bible. I highly suggest it whether you are new to cooking or a veteran in the kitchen. It’s not so much a cookbook but more of an ingredient guide. For example, if you look up eggplants it will list all the ingredients that go well and compliment eggplants. It helped us create most of the recipes on this blog.
I’ve spent the last four years working as a paralegal for a great firm here in New York by day and recipe collecting at night. I began taking pictures of the meals I made with my cell phone so I could remember how they looked the next time I went to make them. I found myself researching more into food and nutrition. At work I became the “go to girl” for cooking advice and recipes.
Two years ago I had the honor of working as a culinary volunteer to celebrity chefs Marc Murphy, Guy Fieri and a few other incredibly talented chefs at the NYC Wine and Food Festival. What an experience! Not only was the event a night to celebrate great food and meet some pretty amazing chefs but also raise money to end world hunger. So far to date the NYC Wine & Food Festival has raised more than $6 million dollars. This event took my love of cooking and passion for sharing what I’ve learned to a whole new level!
With Josh starting school I wanted to be able to be home for him. I always loved the idea of being a stay at home mom but wasn’t ready to give up the income. After much research it hit me like a ton of bricks. I love to cook. I love to share what I know. I already have a binder full of recipes that I’ve created over the years. So in June of 2015 I officially made the jump and created My Corner Bistro.
